Author
Nora Murphy will present a reading from her book Knitting
the Threads of Time followed by a discussion of the
international traditions that inspired her book. She will
also be available for book signing. A great Mother’s
Day gift idea!
Knitting
the Threads of Time
While
knitting a sweater for her son through the course of one
cold, dark Minnesota winter, Murphy brings to life the traditions
and cultures of women from many backgrounds, including Hmong,
American Indian, Mexican, African, and Irish. Murphy’s
personal stories — about her struggles to understand
esoteric knitting patterns, her help from the shaman of
the knit shop, and her challenges sticking with an often
vexing project — will appeal to knitters as well as
everyone else who has labored to create something from scratch.
Nora
Murphy is a writer-in-residence with COMPAS Writers and
Artists in the Schools serving Minnesota schools. She is
the author of several children's history books, has been
a Minnesota Book award finalist and a recipient of a Blacklock
Nature Sanctuary Writing Fellowship from the Jerome Foundation.
A novice knitter, she lives in St. Paul with her family.
